It actually is that time of year. The library goes over its collection development plan regularly. Part of the plan includes weeding. Each department is looking at statistics, space, budget, and a number of factors to determine what can go and what can stay. On Tuesday, I once again got to weed for the Youth Services Department. This time it was juvenile books on cassette. With the move to playaways, books on cassette are no longer being purchased. So those unlucky titles that do not circulate or that have been replaced already are being taken off the shelf.
